The Independent Left wishes to see as much national action as we think the members can bear coupled to selective action.
A good example of selective action (smart action) was achieved when members of the Belgian union, Centrale Générale des Services Publics, closed the ticket offices in Brussels and allowed (a no doubt grateful) public on to trains and buses for free.
Earlier this year in the Southampton council dispute, parking wardens went on strike – hurting the coffers of the council – but not local motorists.
Selective action will not win in itself but coupled to mass actions it stands a better chance than one day actions on their own.
