The Independent Left believes that members’ choice should be central to our union’s campaign demands. From resisting arbitrary ‘return to office’ mandates post-Covid, to demanding that technological improvements be used to improve our working conditions, we believe that it is workers that not only know best how to structure our work, but should reap its benefits.
But what do we mean when we talk about ‘Our Work, Our Way’? What does workers control mean, and how do we get there?
In this month’s session, we will confront the topic of ‘workers control’, and look at a real-life example from 2009 – when workers on the Isle of Wight occupied a wind turbine factory to prevent the loss of 600 jobs.
The Independent Left is continuing its in-person educational series in London, in order to deepen our understanding of the political terrain we operate in. We believe it is vital that members are equipped to think about and understand the union we want to transform – and will be offering all PCS activists that share our aims the opportunity to learn about, reflect on and debate the most important topics of organising.
