Up to now only a small handful of councillors have opposed council cuts. This despite the wide spread acknowledgement, particularly in large towns and cities in the north, that the cuts could lead to social disruption and certainly will lead to large scale job loss.

So we are pleased to discover that a network of councillors, who oppose the cuts, has been formed. Whilst tiny at the moment we hope that it will grow as the realisation grows that the Tories really do mean what they say about future funding of councils.

This network says:

We are a new network of local councillors formed to support the fight against cuts. We believe that instead of implementing the Coalition’s cuts, councils and councillors should refuse to do so and help workers and communities organise in resistance.
